“Sally’s piece is an act of kindness,” says Sarah Rice, who also commissioned the music. “The first thing one notices is its lyrical line – its simplicity, intricacy, delicacy and sense of purpose. There is an intimacy in the piece that is the size and weight of a human life.”
The ambience and acoustic of All Saints Church provides the perfect setting for the recording of If I Could (Have Given You A Note) and its accompanying music video, directed by Marisa Martin, which celebrates its unique heritage, beauty of light and atmosphere.
The piece was written as part of a multi-composer commissioning project, spearheaded by writer and visual artist Sarah Rice, as part of her Text/ure project, which spanned several years and multiple artforms which overlapped and responded to one-another.
