This retrospective a-capella vocal work features lyrics from the poem A Green Cornfield by Christina Rosetti (1830-1894). The piece features a bright and warm opening before exploring the darker palette of rich harmony akin to Poulenc.

The Earth was green, the sky was blue. A skylark hang between the two. I heard and saw that dreary morn', a singing speck above the corn. And in the night I shan't forget, oh skylark. The stars at dawn, the sky forlorn, Skylark.
